Those who need medical care the most are left behind...

aarguin

At one point I went nearly to years without seeing a single doctor despite having a serious medical condition. This was not due to my lack of need to see the doctors, however was due to the lack of access to care. Sure, I had the medical insurance to receive care, I even had the funds to pay for the office visit co-pays, the problem was I was simply too sick and exhausted to go. The common thought is, if you’re sick, go to the doctor to get well, however there is no one to see to get a solution, to get a treatment to feel any better or to get any better? My condition is a rare genetic illness which causes my bodies organ systems to not make enough energy to properly function, and on top of that I suffer with multiple chronic viral infections of my nervous system which has responded to no conventional medical treatment. For me, I am actually better off at home where I can just rest in bed and eat healthy food, and take my natural remedy supports when I am sick than going to any conventional doctor because they have nothing to offer to help.

However, my condition is progressive and I do need to receive routine monitoring from various specialists like neurology, Pulmonology, ophthalmology etc… but many times I have to cancel appointments 2-3 times before finally being able to make it on a particular day at a certain time because of routine flare-ups of my chronic infections rendering me bed-bound and unable to withstand the traveling back and forth to the appointments.

Thankfully, with the presentation of Covid, many providers have now opened up and offered telemedicine services which has helped me in my life tremendously, however, this continues to be an ongoing struggle for myself and millions of others who live with un-resolvable

serious chronic illness. I am not sure what the solution may be for situations like mine and others like me, but I do hope the future holds better access to health care for all.
